The purpose of this assignment is for the student to conceptualize and sketch a research paper for the course contending with a key issue in the marketization of higher education. The student will focus on an element of marketization that is manifested within their educational organization. The topic must contain three key elements: marketization mechanism (external lever that pushes marketization at the institutional level, e.g. state appropriations, change in Carnegie Classification, new state or federal policy, etc – please use your readings to define the mechanism.), university practice (the marketization manifestation within your context, e.g. Nike contracts, faculty grant requirements, student housing, etc. – please use your readings to support your assertions about these practices), and context (the nature of the organization – public, private, Carnegie Classification, location, who it serves, etc.). The student should include well-illustrated examples and data (such as excerpts from policy handbooks, website content, memos, etc. – information readily available to the public). You do not have to use all the documents I have uploaded. It’s a minimum of five references.
